Estradiol cost without insurance is lowest for generic pills: 30 tablets cost $10.24 to $12.57 with a GoodRx coupon in Denver on October 27, 2026. The HRT Index is the independent decision resource for online menopause and HRT care — comparing telehealth providers on clinical legitimacy, care quality, medication fit, price transparency, and access, with every claim verified and dated, so women can choose the path that fits their situation before their first consult.
We may earn a commission if you start care with a provider featured in Find My HRT Path. We earn nothing from GoodRx, Cost Plus Drugs or any pharmacy on this page. That never changes what we report, and every price below is shown with the date we read it. How we make money.
What we actually verified · Last verified October 2026
Our commercial interest, up front: The HRT Index earns commissions from some online HRT providers, and commission affects which providers Find My HRT Path features. This page links to no provider. The cheapest routes on this page, pharmacy coupons and mail-order cash pharmacies, pay us nothing.
What we read on October 27, 2026:
- GoodRx coupon prices for seven estradiol products in Denver, CO (ZIP 80202), read in a browser between about 6:30 and 6:45 PM Mountain time. For each, we took the lowest "Standard GoodRx price" (coupon price, not GoodRx's paid membership price) from about eight pharmacies.
- Cost Plus Drugs' price breakdown for each estradiol product it lists: drug cost, markup, pharmacy fee and standard shipping, at the quantities shown.
- The FDA labels for generic estradiol tablets and for 10 mcg estradiol vaginal inserts (Yuvafem), for usual doses.
What we did not price: estradiol gel and spray, and the GoodRx price of the vaginal ring. We link to our dedicated pages for those.
What we did not do: we did not fill a prescription or pay for any medicine. GoodRx prices vary by pharmacy, location and day, and the price at the counter or checkout is the only one that counts.
How we judge any option (our Verification Standard, in this order): 1) clinical legitimacy, 2) care quality, 3) medication fit, 4) price transparency, 5) access. Read the full methodology.

Estradiol cost without insurance by form
This table puts every common form side by side. It answers the first question most people have: roughly what will this cost me per fill?
GoodRx coupon prices in Denver, CO (80202), checked Oct 27, 2026; prices vary. Lowest of about eight pharmacies. Cost Plus Drugs prices read October 27, 2026, with its $5.25 standard shipping added. "Not priced" means we did not read a price, not that it is unavailable.
| Form (generic unless noted) | Strength and quantity | Lowest GoodRx coupon price (pharmacy) | Cost Plus Drugs, shipping included | Roughly how long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tablets | 0.5 mg, 30 | $10.24 (Walgreens) | $11.29 | 30 days at 1 a day |
| Tablets | 1 mg, 30 | $11.55 (Walgreens) | $12.01 | 30 days at 1 a day |
| Tablets | 2 mg, 30 | $12.57 (Walgreens) | $12.08 | 30 days at 1 a day |
| Tablets, 90-day fill | 1 mg, 90 | Not priced | $15.53 | 90 days at 1 a day |
| Once-weekly skin patch | 0.05 mg/day, 4 patches | $29.83 (Walmart) | Generic out of stock; brand Climara $58.55 | 4 weeks |
| Twice-weekly skin patch | 0.05 mg/day, 8 patches | $33.82 (Walgreens) | $53.08 (Lyllana) | 4 weeks |
| Vaginal cream 0.01% | 42.5 g tube | $35.82 (Sam's Club) | $18.46 | Depends on your prescribed dose |
| Vaginal inserts | 10 mcg, 8 inserts | $45.00 (Target (CVS) and CVS) | $32.23 | 4 weeks at the twice-weekly maintenance dose |
| Vaginal ring (Estring, brand) | 2 mg, 1 ring | Not priced | $559.62 | See our Estring cost guide |
| Gel | Packets | Not priced | Generic listed as long-term out of stock | See our Divigel cost guide |
What the table tells you. Pills are the cheapest form by a wide margin. With a coupon, a month of generic tablets cost less than half as much as a month of the cheapest skin patch. A pill isn't right for everyone, though, and that is a medical decision, not a price one. If you and your clinician choose a patch, our cheapest estradiol patch without insurance guide compares every brand and strength.
Retail versus coupon. GoodRx also showed a "retail" price for most items. For 1 mg tablets it was $11.99, close to the coupon price. For the cream, retail was $205.06 against a $35.82 coupon price. The bigger and more brand-like the product, the more a coupon matters.
Generic estradiol pills: the cheapest way to pay
Generic estradiol tablets come in 0.5 mg, 1 mg and 2 mg, according to the FDA label. The label says treatment for hot flashes usually starts at 1 to 2 mg a day, adjusted to control symptoms, and that the lowest effective dose should be used. Your prescriber picks the strength. The good news is that price barely changes with strength.
Generic estradiol tablets: coupon versus mail order. GoodRx coupon prices in Denver, CO (80202), checked Oct 27, 2026; prices vary. Cost Plus Drugs read October 27, 2026.
| Strength | GoodRx coupon, 30 tablets | GoodRx retail, 30 tablets | Cost Plus, 30 tablets + shipping | Cost Plus, 90 tablets + shipping | Cost Plus 90-day fill, per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.5 mg | $10.24 (Walgreens) | $10.69 | $6.04 + $5.25 = $11.29 | $8.10 + $5.25 = $13.35 | $4.45 |
| 1 mg | $11.55 (Walgreens) | $11.99 | $6.76 + $5.25 = $12.01 | $10.28 + $5.25 = $15.53 | $5.18 |
| 2 mg | $12.57 (Walgreens) | $15.31 | $6.83 + $5.25 = $12.08 | $10.49 + $5.25 = $15.74 | $5.25 |
How to read it:
- For a 30-day fill, the two routes cost about the same. A local coupon fill was $10.24 to $12.57; Cost Plus by mail was $11.29 to $12.08 once shipping is added.
- For a 90-day fill, mail order wins. Cost Plus's $5 pharmacy fee and $5.25 shipping were the same for 30 and 90 tablets, so tripling the quantity added only a few dollars. We did not read GoodRx's 90-tablet prices, so check those before assuming the gap.
- You can use either route without insurance. Both need a valid prescription. Cost Plus Drugs fills by mail; your prescriber sends the prescription to it.
First-year math for estradiol pills
Here is what a year of 1 mg tablets would cost at the prices above, taken once a day. These are our calculations on October 27 prices, not quotes. Prices will change during the year.
| Route | Fills per year | Price per fill | Year's medicine cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| GoodRx coupon, 30 tablets at a time | 12 | $11.55 | $138.60 |
| Cost Plus Drugs, 30 tablets at a time | 12 | $12.01 | $144.12 |
| Cost Plus Drugs, 90 tablets at a time | 4 | $15.53 | $62.12 |
The medicine itself can cost less than $65 a year. What usually costs more is the prescription: the visit, any follow-up and, if you have a uterus, the progesterone you'll take with it. We cover those below.
The right online menopause care isn't the same for every woman — it depends on your symptoms, what you've already tried, your age, your state and your health history. Some situations belong with an in-person clinician first. Use The HRT Index's Find My HRT Path tool to explore a featured care option for your situation — and to flag when online care isn't the right starting point — before your first consult. It is free, takes about 60 seconds, asks five questions and needs no email. It is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan.
Why the same estradiol prescription has three different prices
You will usually see three numbers for the same bottle of estradiol:
- The retail or "cash" price. What a pharmacy charges with no insurance and no coupon. For generic pills it may be close to the coupon price; for creams and patches it can be several times higher.
- The coupon price. A discount card such as GoodRx gives you a pre-negotiated price at a specific pharmacy. It changes by pharmacy, ZIP code and day. Our HRT prescription discount card guide explains how these cards work.
- The cost-plus price. Cost Plus Drugs shows how its price is built. For 30 generic 1 mg tablets on October 27, 2026, it listed:
| Part of the price | Amount |
|---|---|
| What the drug cost Cost Plus | $1.53 |
| Markup | $0.23 (15%) |
| Pharmacy fee | $5.00 |
| Price shown | $6.76 |
| Standard shipping | $5.25 |
| What you'd pay | $12.01 |
That breakdown explains the pattern in our tables. Generic estradiol tablets are so cheap to buy that fixed fees make up most of what you pay. So bigger fills save money, and a coupon fill at a local pharmacy can match mail order for a single month. More on how Cost Plus works for hormone therapy in our Cost Plus Drugs HRT guide.
Other forms of estradiol and where to find full prices
Pills aren't the right fit for everyone. Some women and their clinicians choose a skin form instead of a pill, and vaginal estrogen is a separate, low-dose treatment for dryness and painful sex. Here's what each cost on October 27 and where to go for details.
Skin patches. The lowest GoodRx coupon prices were $29.83 for 4 once-weekly patches (Walmart) and $33.82 for 8 twice-weekly patches (Walgreens), both 0.05 mg/day. At Cost Plus, generic once-weekly and some twice-weekly strengths were listed as out of stock; the Lyllana twice-weekly 0.05 mg box was $53.08 with shipping. Strengths, brands and shortages are covered in cheapest estradiol patch without insurance.
Vaginal cream. Generic estradiol 0.01% cream (the generic of Estrace cream) was $35.82 with a GoodRx coupon at Sam's Club and $18.46 from Cost Plus with shipping. GoodRx's retail price was $205.06. How long a tube lasts depends on the dose you're prescribed. See Estrace cream cost without insurance.
Vaginal inserts. Generic 10 mcg inserts were $45.00 for 8 with a GoodRx coupon (Target (CVS) and CVS) and $32.23 from Cost Plus with shipping. The FDA label for Yuvafem says to use 1 insert daily for 2 weeks, then 1 insert twice a week. So the first month needs about 18 inserts; Cost Plus listed 18 for $54.45, or $59.70 with shipping. After that, 8 inserts cover about 4 weeks. See Yuvafem cost without insurance and Vagifem cost without insurance.
Vaginal ring. Cost Plus listed brand Estring at $554.37, or $559.62 with shipping. We did not read a GoodRx price. See Estring cost without insurance.
Gel and spray. Cost Plus listed generic estradiol gel packets as long-term out of stock, and we did not read GoodRx prices for gel or spray. See Divigel cost without insurance and Evamist cost without insurance.
For a plain-language comparison of the vaginal options, see cheapest vaginal estrogen without insurance.
How much estradiol you'll need: match the quantity to your prescription
The price per fill only matters next to how long the fill lasts. Use these to turn any price into a monthly cost:
| Form | Usual pattern (from the FDA label or the product) | One month needs |
|---|---|---|
| Tablets | Once a day | 30 tablets |
| Once-weekly patch | 1 new patch a week | 4 patches (4 weeks) |
| Twice-weekly patch | 2 new patches a week | 8 patches (4 weeks) |
| Vaginal inserts, 10 mcg | Daily for 2 weeks, then twice a week (Yuvafem label) | 18 in the first month, then about 8 every 4 weeks |
| Vaginal cream | Set by your prescriber | Depends on your dose |
Ask for a 90-day prescription if your dose is stable. With fixed per-fill fees, three months at once usually costs less per month, as the Cost Plus numbers show. Your prescriber has to write the larger quantity.
Costs beyond the medicine
The tablet price is the smallest part of the bill for many women. Before you budget, add these:
- A prescription. Estradiol is prescription-only. A visit with your own clinician, a telehealth visit or an online membership is often the biggest cost. Our HRT cost guide compares the routes, and estradiol prescription online covers how to get one.
- Progesterone, if you have a uterus. The FDA label for estradiol tablets says that when estrogen is prescribed for a postmenopausal woman with a uterus, a progestin should also be started to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer. A woman without a uterus does not need one. See cheapest progesterone without insurance and do you need progesterone if you have a uterus.
- Follow-up. Most prescribers want to check in after you start, and the label says to try lowering or stopping the dose at 3- to 6-month intervals. Ask whether follow-up is included or billed separately.
- Lab tests, usually not. The Menopause Society says serum hormone testing is rarely needed, and that saliva and urine testing to set doses is unreliable. If a lab test is ordered, ask who pays. See do you need blood tests for HRT.
Coupon, mail order or a monthly plan: which route fits you?
| If this sounds like you | Cheapest sensible route | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| You already have a prescription and want it today | A coupon at a local pharmacy | Prices vary by pharmacy; compare two or three |
| Your dose is stable and you can wait for mail | A 90-day fill from a cost-plus mail-order pharmacy | Shipping time; patch strengths may be out of stock |
| You have insurance but a high deductible | Compare your plan's copay with the coupon price | Ask your plan whether a cash or coupon fill counts toward your deductible |
| You don't have a prescription yet | A visit with your own clinician, or an online HRT service | Visit and membership fees can be far more than the medicine |
| You want the visit, prescription and medicine in one price | An all-in online plan (see below) | Confirm the billing interval and what's included before you pay |
If you have insurance, check it before paying cash. See does insurance cover HRT for menopause.
When the medicine is cheap but the care isn't
For many women, the hard part isn't paying $12 for estradiol. It's getting a prescriber. Some online HRT services bundle the clinician, the prescription and the medicine into one monthly price. The flat monthly plans we checked for our bioidentical hormone therapy cost guide ran $69 to $199 a month, far more than the $5 to $12 a month generic tablets cost with a coupon or by mail. What you pay for in a plan is the clinician and the convenience, not the pill.
- If you already have a prescriber, the coupon or mail-order route is cheaper.
- If you don't, compare a plan's monthly price with a one-time visit fee plus the medicine, and confirm the billing interval and what's included before you pay. Our HRT cost guide compares the routes.
How to pay less for estradiol without insurance
- Ask for the generic. Every price on this page except Climara, Lyllana and Estring is for a generic.
- Compare two or three pharmacies. In our Denver check, the cheapest pharmacy changed by product: Walgreens for tablets, Walmart for once-weekly patches, Sam's Club for cream.
- Ask for a 90-day supply once your dose is stable.
- Check mail order for anything you'll take long term.
- Read the whole price. Add shipping and fees before comparing.
- Check your insurance anyway. Your plan's copay might beat the coupon.
Who should see an in-person clinician first?
Price shouldn't decide whether estrogen is safe for you. See a clinician in person before starting, or before switching forms, if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding, a history of cancer, blood clots, stroke or heart attack, or if you might be pregnant. Find My HRT Path flags these situations: unexplained bleeding and pregnancy get guidance instead of a featured provider, and a history of cancer, clots, stroke or heart attack gets a careful clinician-review option.
Find the route that fits you
If you're not sure whether you need a prescriber, a cheaper pharmacy or both, start with your situation. Find My HRT Path asks about your symptoms, what you've tried, your age, your state and your health history, then shows a featured care option or tells you when online care isn't the right place to start.

How much is estradiol 1 mg without insurance?
$11.55 for 30 tablets with a GoodRx coupon at Walgreens in Denver (checked October 27, 2026; prices vary), or $12.01 for 30 and $15.53 for 90 from Cost Plus Drugs with shipping.
Is estradiol 2 mg more expensive than 1 mg?
Only slightly. With a GoodRx coupon in Denver, 30 tablets of 2 mg were $12.57 versus $11.55 for 1 mg. At Cost Plus Drugs the difference was 7 cents for 30.
Does Cost Plus Drugs sell estradiol?
Yes. On October 27, 2026 it listed generic tablets (0.5, 1 and 2 mg), the 0.01% vaginal cream, 10 mcg vaginal inserts, some twice-weekly patch strengths, brand Climara patches and brand Estring. Generic once-weekly patches and generic gel were listed as out of stock.
Is GoodRx or Cost Plus Drugs cheaper for estradiol?
For a 30-day supply of tablets, they were within about a dollar. For a 90-day supply, Cost Plus was cheaper per month. For vaginal cream and inserts, Cost Plus was cheaper in our check. For once- and twice-weekly patches, the GoodRx coupon price was lower.
How much does an estradiol prescription cost without insurance?
The medicine can be under $65 a year. The prescription itself depends on how you get it: a visit with your own clinician, a telehealth visit or an online membership. See our HRT cost guide.
Can I use an HSA or FSA for estradiol?
Prescription medicines are generally eligible HSA and FSA expenses. Check your plan's rules and keep your receipt.
Does a GoodRx coupon work with insurance?
A coupon is used instead of insurance for that fill, not on top of it. Ask the pharmacist to compare both prices.
How long does a tube of estradiol cream last?
It depends on your prescribed dose and schedule. See Estrace cream cost without insurance for worked examples.
Do I need progesterone with estradiol?
If you have a uterus, usually yes. The FDA label says a progestin should be added for postmenopausal women with a uterus. Low-dose vaginal estrogen is different; ask your prescriber.
